The Wheatsheaf Inn was open for much of the 19th century, surviving when many other public house in Wetheral where closed. The Wheatsheaf came under state control in 1916 until its sale in 1973.
The Village Of Wetheral

The Village of Wetheral is just a couple of miles from Carlisle in the north of Cumbria sits the thriving and rather affluent village of Whetheral. less than that from the A69 Carlisle to Newcastle route, and has a station on the railway line linking those two cities – it is not surprising that Wetheral, while still nominally a village, has evolved into a commuter town for Carlisle.
